"On the road to tomorrow – Finland’s first hybrid campsite, sustainable by nature."

Ounaskoski Camping is more than just a campsite – it is a place where respect for nature, the local way of life, and the principles of sustainable tourism come together. Located on the banks of the Ounasjoki River, just a stone’s throw from the center of Rovaniemi, the campsite has been welcoming travelers since the 1950s – and is now evolving toward the future.

Towards a hybrid campsite

Our campsite is not only a travel destination but also an important part of Rovaniemi’s cultural heritage. Back when logs were floated down the Kemijoki River, lumber workers stayed on our site. We are proud to highlight this history, promote Rovaniemi’s unique culture, and help local decision-makers understand the value of keeping the campsite in its current location.

We are boldly developing Finland’s first hybrid campsite, where sustainable tourism, a safe environment, community well-being, and memorable accommodation experiences come together. We work closely with local businesses and prefer local products and services, because the well-being of local residents matters to us.

Responsibility is a matter of the heart

We are committed to environmental responsibility and are currently working toward the Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) and Biosphere certifications to guide our sustainability efforts. We sort our waste carefully, use energy and water wisely, and encourage our guests to make responsible choices. At the same time, we support carbon-neutral travel and preserve the cultural heritage of Lapland in everything we do.

Sustainability is not just a goal for us – it’s a promise.
A promise that Ounaskoski will remain a vibrant and meaningful place – a nature-connected meeting point for both travelers and locals.

This is how responsibility is reflected in our campsite

Local Connection

The campsite’s location in a beautiful natural setting makes it ideal for environmentally friendly activities such as hiking and cycling.

Recycling

Our center is committed to eco-friendly practices, and the site includes two comprehensive recycling points for waste management.

Sustainable Tourism

We take ecological, social, and economic aspects into account in our operations, ensuring that tourism supports environmental well-being, local communities, and the economy in the long term. Our area has adopted the principles of sustainable tourism and actively puts them into practice.

Accessibility

Accessibility is a priority at our site. One of our service buildings includes two accessible restrooms and showers. Our café has barrier-free access, and we are continuously adapting our services to meet accessibility needs.
